Hello Microsoft!

In September, Microsoft officials said to expect the handful of Bing consumer apps -- which Microsoft has rebranded as MSN apps -- to come to iOS and Android "in the coming months." These touch-enabled apps, which include News, Weather, Sports, Money, Health & Fitness, and Food & Drink, previously were available only for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.
The new iOS, Android and Amazon versions of these apps are available for download as of December 11 from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Amazon App Store, as well as the Windows and Windows Phone Stores. All of these apps are free.
Microsoft has built new versions of its MSN apps "from the ground up" for non-Windows operating systems, according to company officials. In some cases, Microsoft developers made available new features specific to the various OS platforms. The MSN Health & Fitness app for iOS, for example, enables iPhone users to use the step counter to keep track of daily activity and sync it with Apple HealthKit.
The Microsoft "Bing AppEx" (Applications Experience) team is the one that built the consumer-focused, Bing-powered apps and services for Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and Xbox.
Before Microsoft made the current crop of MSN apps available across platform, the company had made some of its other consumer-focused apps available on iOS, Android and the Kindle Fire and Kindle Phone platforms, including the Bing search app, OneDrive cloud-storage app and OneNote note-taking app and Skype communications client. These apps weren't built by the Bing AppEx team and aren't part of the MSN app family.
Microsoft's move to bring its MSN apps to competitive mobile platforms is part of the company's ongoing productivity and platforms push. Microsoft officials also may be counting on cross-platform availability of these MSN apps to help drive more users to Microsoft's recently made-over site, where favorites and other settings can be shared across Bing, Cortana, the MSN applications and other Microsoft properties.

Nick Jr App

Following a successful rollout of the Nick App, which has amassed more than 11 million downloads globally since launching last year, Nickelodeon is releasing its preschool offering first announced at its upfront presentation in March.
The new Nick Jr. App will be available for free, initially for iPads. Features include a variety of interactive content, like simulcast streaming of the Nick. Jr channel and commercial-free, on-demand episodes made available through TV Everywhere.
Additionally, the app offers a variety of educational activities, alphabet buttons that trigger pop-up surprises and more than 100 pieces of short-form content like music videos, mashups and exclusive first-looks.
Designed specifically for preschoolers, the branded platform sports a grid-style interface and movable tile layout, making it easy for little fingers to scroll through content. It also aims to boost STEM learning and reading, motor and problem-solving skills.
To date, Nick has launched more than 20 preschool apps, including chart-topping titles like PAW Patrol Rescue Run, Wallykazam! Letter and Word Magic, Bubble Guppies Animal School Day and the award-winning Nick Jr. Draw and Play.
Its roster of preschool apps mirrors Nick Jr.’s curriculum-driven programming lineup, which features series like PAW Patrol, Dora and Friends: Into the City!, Blaze and the Monster Machines, Wallykazam! and Bubble Guppies.

Do we need a curved tv?

Whilst he acknowledges that curved TVs "provide some flair," Dr. Raymond M. Soneira of display diagnostics and calibration company DisplayMateargues that whether or not we like a curved TV more or less than a flat one is still primarily a subjective matter. Soneira, who earned a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics at Princeton, says there are other, more tangible benefits to a curved screen.
Soneira explains that the concave shape reduces the number of reflections on a screen by eliminating certain angles from which they can be created. "This is very important for a display technology that produces excellent dark image content and perfect blacks, because you don’t want that spoiled by ambient light reflected off the screen," says Soneira.
He also says that curved TVs improve the viewing experience for individuals sitting off-center. Soneira explains that the curve of the screen works to eliminate some of the unintended "foreshorteneing" caused by sitting to one side. That is to say, images displayed on the far side of the screen that would otherwise look unnaturally small compared to images on the near side of the screen due to the larger viewing distance are, in fact, equalized to some extent by the curve.

We all need a robot to start working with and whynot one of these?

Seven years ago, iRobot unveiled the Create – an educational robot based around the platform of the company's existing Roomba vacuum-cleaning robot. Both robotics in general and the Roomba specifically have advanced since then, so it only makes sense that iRobot has now announced the Create 2.
The new robot has all the same LEDs, sensors, motors and processing hardware as the current Roomba 600 Series, plus it uses the same preprogrammed behaviors to move around the room.
It's also designed to be hackable, however. This means that students can add external tools such as cameras and grippers, via an integrated faceplate drilling template. They can also program it directly from a computer via a serial-to-USB cable, or by installing either an Arduino or Raspberry Pi microcontroller.
Ford dumps microsoft from cars!

announcing a new infotainment system for its Ford and Lincoln vehicles today. Among its features: a streamlined, tablet-like interface with gestures such as swiping and pinch-to-zoom; smarter voice recognition; easier access to apps like Pandora and Spotify; Siri support for iPhone users; and the ability to update itself over your Wi-Fi network as your car sits in the garage or on the driveway. Some models will get the new system in 2015, and the company expects it to be available across all of its lines by the end of 2016.
Its name—Sync 3—suggests continuity, evolution, and close ties to the systems which preceded it. But in fact, Sync 3 isn't the third version of anything.
ync 3 ditches Microsoft entirely in favor of QNX, an industrial-strength operating system owned by BlackBerry. (It also provides the underpinnings for BlackBerry 10 phones such as the Passport.)
Ford would rather that people focus on Sync 3's new features than on corporate intrigue involving its software partners. In fact, its press release about Sync 3 mentions neither Microsoft nor QNX—a pretty striking omission given that it once trumpeted its partnership with Microsoft. (Ford vehicles with existing flavors of Sync even have little plaques mounted on their dashboards touting Microsoft's involvement.)
Even if Ford isn't anxious to talk about it, the switch to QNX is an eminently sensible move. The software already has over 50% market share in the automotive business, counting BMW, Chrysler, GM, Honda, Mercedes, Toyota, and others among its customers. Ford is pretty much adopting an industry standard.

Kate Spade ran ads across Google's Display Network, targeting sites such as US Weekly, Salon, Food Network and Rolling Stone, which are popular with women.
Battle of the Video Platforms
Both the shoppable and pre-roll videos have reached 20 million YouTube viewers since Nov. 7.
At the same time that Kate Spade is claiming some success with Google video ads, the platform is facing increasing competition from Facebook.
Earlier this year, Heineken ran a campaign on Facebook that reached 35 million users in three days.
"What we're finding is that we have to consider Facebook as the key video partner going forward because not only does it have the reach but the effectiveness," Heineken’s senior media director of marketing Ron Amram told Adweek.
COOL Last month, the brand launched "The Waiting Game"—a two-minute video starring the actress, who gets locked out of her apartment after a day of shopping. Four snippets are running on YouTube as five-second pre-roll ads, geared toward mobile viewers with shorter attention spans than people watching on desktops.
